Places for Dates Melbourne

There are so many great places for dates out there. First thing's first... Talk to your date about what suits them. A vegan won't be impressed by a steakhouse. Someone with a bad back won't want to sit through a 7-course banquet.

Tradition suggests a restaurant for a date, but it's pressure and not the best. Maybe consider a walk, a picnic, an activity. We like dates where you walk between destinations: maybe a bar for a drink, then a picnic at the beach, then dessert somewhere else.

On this page, we'll make a couple of suggestions, then list some companies who are paying for space here because they think they are good for dates, and finally, offer members some impressive ideas for dates...

Our Suggestions

Theme Restaurants

Some people love these, some don't. Abbey Road Cafe in St Kilda has a Beetles theme. Soda Rock at the Jam Factory on Chapel St has a 60s diner theme. TGI Fridays (several locations) has an American memorabilia theme. Misty's Diner (Reservoir (we miss the old Prahran site)). There are hundreds of Mexican, Thai, Chinese restaurants that are themed. Witches in Britches in West Melbourne or Titanic in Williamstown if you want a theatre restaurant. There are a couple of good German restaurants (Hof Downtown in Docklands, Hofbrauhaus in the CBD, Munich Brauhaus on Southbank).

Lygon Street

Like Italian? Lygon Street has been a great experience for years. The waiters want your business and will try to drag you in.

Chapel Street

The best thing about Chapel St is that you can make a date night where you grab a drink at a bar, have dinner somewhere else on Chapel, then find another bar. Restaurants like Lover, Neptune, Jalisco or Patee Thai are pretty good.

Fitzroy, Thornbury, City

Similar to Chapel St, there are some very funky bars and restaurants in these places. Grab a drink at one place, dinner somewhere else, then more drinks. If you're in the city, Southbank is a great place for a first kiss.

China Town

Another unique experience. Plenty of options. From the super fancy Shanghai Dynasty to places where you order from a computer screen, it's all there.

Beach areas

St Kilda has a range of restaurants and take-away joints an easy walk to the beach, or you can go somewhere like Captain Baxters or Donovans which is right on the beach. Mordialloc has a few cafes and take-away places near the beach or Sunny Boy Beach Club on the beach. There's also Doyles Hotel on the creek. Even Frankston has Waves On The Beach (or Sofia's - ok, probably not fancy enough). Even fish amp; chips on the beack can be a great date.

Fancy Restaurants

Some of you are going to want the fancy places. Maybe try Dinner By Heston in Southbank (Crown), Attica (Ripponlea), Vue De Monde (CBD), Brae (Birregurra), Lûmé (South Melbourne), Minamishima (Richmond), Estelle By Scott Pickett (Northcote), Press Club (CBD), Ezard (CBD), Flower Drum (CBD) or something like Nobu (Crown) or Grossi Florentine (CBD).

Suburbs

Knox has a range of places, especially in Ozone. The Thai Restaurant there is brilliant. Switch is the go to at Fountain Gate. There are a few good places around Century City in Waverley like Airstream. Lobster Cave at Beaumaris is something a bit different.

Entertainment Book

This is a book with discount vouchers for hundreds of restaurants, places, cafes and shops. Why not buy one and work your way through it?

Activities

The zoo (a great one), mini golf, movies, drive-in, sky-diving, theatre, karaoke... let your mind run wild. If you have a common interest, go for it.
